At RAA, you can train via the log book method, also known as Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A), or we can provide training to prepare you for your Vehicle On Road Test (VORT).

Important steps to earning a full licence in SA

1. Earning your Ls
To get a learner’s permit, you’ll need to complete a 2-part theory test at Service SA.
Part A: Correctly answer all 8 give way questions to move on to Part B.
Part B: Correctly answer at least 32 of 42 multiple choice questions on road rules and safety.

2. Earning your P1s
You’ll need to have held a valid learner's permit for at least 12 months.
Log at least 75 hours' driving (including 15 at night) with a qualified supervising driver.
Complete all the requirements of log book (CBT&A) training or pass a VORT test.
Successfully complete a Hazard Perception Test at Service SA.

3. Earning your P2s
You can apply for your P2 licence once you've held your P1s for 12 months.
You no longer have to display your P-plates, but most of the provisional licence conditions still apply.

4. Full licence
After 2 years on your P2 licence, you can apply for your full licence.
