Log book (CBT&A) driving lessons

90 minute lesson

Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) is more commonly known as the log book method.

This method allows you to naturally progress and build your skills at your own pace. RAA’s qualified and supportive driving instructors will help you develop skills by identifying gaps and working to achieve the best outcomes.

As you successfully complete each of the 30 required tasks, this will be recorded by your instructor. Unlike VORT, there’s no final driving test.

What you need to know about IDPs (heading 2)

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a special tourist licence that allows motorists to drive overseas without further tests or applications. It’s proof that you hold a valid driver’s licence in Australia and is a requirement for driving and renting a car in many countries. RAA is the only organisation in SA authorised to issue an IDP.

Apply for an IDP (normal bold)

  1. Order your IDP online (Link to https://www.idp.raa.com.au ) now or
  2. Download an application form (Link to 6.2.8 IDP Help Centre) and take it into any RAA shop (Link to 6.a.2 Find an RAA Shop) with a copy of your current Australian driver’s licence and a passport-sized photo.

Driving overseas? Get an International Driving Permit (heading 3)

  • Before purchasing an IDP, it’s highly recommended that you visit the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) International Driving Permit Directory and check your destinations for IDP requirements.
  • IDPs are valid for 12 months
  • They’re a translation of your Australian driver's licence and must be accompanied by your valid Australian driver’s licence at all times.
  • They show your identification details in nine languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Greek, German and Japanese), making them a handy form of ID when communicating with foreign authorities.
  • It’s still important to familiarise yourself with the road rules of the countries where you plan to drive.
  • Cost – $39 plus postage.
  • Your IDP will take 5-8 working days to process.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
